Demain, il fera jour
The past years many interesting creative people crossed our path. Sometimes is too hard to pick one of their projects to write about so we decided to add a new item onto our blog.
10 Questions is what they get from us, an interesting view in their designer-brains is what you get.
Demail, il fera jour is a Belgian based Creative Agency that specializes in Art Direction and Scenography. They’re the creative brains that develop visual, experiential and spatial compositions for their clients. They’re the creative brains that slightly disappear into the background when putting their clients into the spotlights. However the time has come for them to shine.
David Carette, the owner and Art Director of Demain, il fera jour gave us a peek into his mind.
1. How would you describe what you do?
In short, you could say we do Art Direction and create scenography. Basically, this means that we design sets, develop universes for fashion shows, set the stage for photo shootings, design the set-up for exhibitions… And we make them well.
2. At what time do you start your day?
A normal working day starts at about 8.30am with some good coffee and some music to wake up. We start the day by reading e-mails and catching up with some online press and websites.
3. Is there a specific reason why you started doing this?
We wanted to be as free as possible. We are now able to fill our days with doing what we love: designing, have creative meetings and dreaming. Besides that, we wanted to build things, which is exactly what we do now. We don’t just give an idea, but we also build all constructions ourselves, and it feels nice to see something grow from scratch.
4. What or who is your source of inspiration?
We are very much inspired by Contemporary Art and big cities. But Music and nature inspire us too… In fact, we find our inspiration in lots of things. Inspiration really is everywhere.
5. Which is your all-time favorite design?
We don’t have one favorite design in particular. There is no ranking for us. It is a matter of being in the right moment, place, situation, and mood.
6. Do you think you’ll keep walking down this path in the future or do you have other creative calls?
We believe our core will always stay the same. But hopefully we will be able to expand our horizons with loads of new experiences, new meetings, and new territories.
7. Is there a piece of work you would consider your very own masterpiece?
That’s really Impossible to say. Let’s say that the look book we made for our own sweatshirt label was an intense experience. It was very hectic, but we got great feedback on it, which makes it even nicer!
8. If you had a time machine, in what year would you be living?
Today is fine for me actually. I would only use the machine for some weekends and holidays, to escape to hustle and bustle for a bit.
9. Cookies and milk or chips and soda?
Chips and soda.
10. If you could give yourself one single piece of advice before you started this adventure, what would it be?
Surround yourself with people who are better and more experienced than you.
