Pure

Next to many buildings and great pieces of furniture, the French architect Jean Nouvel can now also add shoes to his bucket list.
In collaboration with the Italian Ruco Line Jean Nouvel designed his ultimate and most pure formed shoe.

“When I saw the last on which the shoes are produced, I already knew what I wanted to do” Jean Nouvel said. A very understandable yet very tricky thought if you were taught that the best designs originate by constantly rethinking every step of the designing process.

The design emphasizes the idea of the archetype of a shoe. A Pure, simple and direct form derived from the shape of the foot itself, but radicalized to its essence in order to create a form that could wrap the foot completely.
A very discrete play of graphic elements personalizes each shoe with a unique serial number.

To be honest I’m not sure what to think yet. At first sight the design looks rather strange and not very elegant. But after a while you kind of get used to it and start appreciating the thoughts behind the design. “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication” according to the great Leonardo Da Vinci. What do you think? Would you wear these sophisticated designer shoes?
Available in stores June 2013.
