Manual Michele Mathison

Michele Mathison is a sculptor and installation artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Manual studies the the value of common objects, things we use every day and that you can find in places like hardware stores, markets and on the side of the road.
It is interesting that people can regard the same objects in very different ways. By placing mundane objects like spades, picking axes and shopping trolleys in a new context, they are given a new meaning. By combining multiple objects, Mathison creates movement and beautiful sculptures that comment on the ”brutality and integrity” of labour.
