Metal Rock

Veerle Verbakel, creative spirit and business consultant from Belgium, starts a new adventure. In her brand new gallery, opening today, she specialises in limited edition twenty-first century design objects and art. Desingers are commisioned to creat pieces using high-quality material and innovative techniques. After a trip to Hong Kong, and frequenting art and design fairs around the globe, she felt the extreme power of design as art. 

The first expo at the gallery, Metal Rock, is centred around designer Michael Young, who is known as a 'sophisticated minimalist acclaimed for his elegant, pared-down aesthetics'. After years in the UK, he set up his studio in Hong Kong in 2006, where he explores his passion for pioneering technologies for brands like Georg Jensen, Iittala, Moke and others. Metal Rock consists of blue and gold aluminium objects. To create this limited edition collection, he developed a set of steel tools in which molten aluminium can be injected with high temperature gas under pressure, resulting in foamy rock formations. The pieces are colored in a facility that normally colors cellphone cases. Every object is unique and hand finished.

The show runs from 22 April to 8 May and will be open during Art Brussels on 23 April and 24 April from 2 to 6 PM. Otherwise by appointment.
